A Legacy Built on Fond Memories

Richard M. Murphy, B.Arch 1965, S.T.B. 1965

Hey Hey Class of ’65! Those who remember that jingle from the popular TV show “What Really Happened to the Class of ’65?” might now have it playing in their heads for the rest of the day. But those who experienced that era while studying at The Catholic University of America will never forget that special time in their lives. Richard M. Murphy, B.Arch 1965, S.T.B. 1965, was one of those individuals.

Richard was born and spent his childhood in Dedham, Massachusetts. He also had fond memories of summers spent in Marshfield with his aunts and cousins. He later attended Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai, California.

During his studies at Catholic University, Richard developed a love for architecture. After obtaining his degree, Richard spent his professional career planning and designing a variety of iconic architectural projects around the world.

Outside of work, Richard loved and enjoyed life and was an avid sailor, skier, golfer, and adventure traveler. He and his wife Mary Anne spent many years traveling with family and friends all over the globe.

The Catholic University of America is grateful for Richard’s generous $126,000 bequest to the School or Architecture and Planning. It will provide critical funding for renovations of the Edward M. Crough Center for Architectural Studies, built circa 1919, which houses the school. The University is proud to name a newly renovated classroom in his memory.
