The Catholic University of America is honored to be a beneficiary of the estate of Dr. Louis A. Corvese, B.A. 1950, M.S. 1953. Dr. Corvese’s estate will provide endowed funding for the University’s School of Arts and Sciences for many generations to come.

Dr. Corvese, a retired orthopedic surgeon, graduated from Classical High School, Catholic University, and the Yale University School of Medicine. He interned at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., as well as at Newington Children’s Hospital and Yale University. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Corvese practiced orthopedic surgery for more than 40 years and was a member of the Rhode Island Hospital surgical staff. Kindness and concern for his patients were always paramount to him.

Early in his career, Dr. Corvese served as a surgeon on active duty both at sea and ashore with the U.S. Navy. Among the Navy vessels he served on during the war in Vietnam were the USS Enterprise and the USS Sanctuary, the latter a Navy hospital ship anchored off Vietnam that provided medical and surgical care for wounded soldiers.

In addition to his medical practice and service in the Navy, Dr. Corvese generously supported the arts and various charities during his lifetime. He was very grateful for the many acts of kindness and concern shown to him by family and friends, especially during the last years of his life.

Dr. Corvese’s generous bequest through a percentage of his trust, IRA, and other beneficiary designations is estimated to be in excess of $4.6 million. As an endowed fund and in accordance to Dr. Corvese’s wishes, it will provide funding for the University’s Departments of physics and chemistry in perpetuity.

The University is honored to be the recipient of such a generous bequest. Still, it would have been wonderful to have had prior knowledge of Dr. Corvese’s intention during his lifetime. How moving it would have been to celebrate his bequest intention with the students and faculty of these programs! It would also have been an honor to welcome him into the St. Thomas Aquinas Society, the University’s recognition forum for estate planning. Please do not let your heartfelt intentions be left unnoticed or unappreciated. Contact Isabel de la Puente at 202-319-6914 or delapuente@cua.edu today to begin planning your estate gift!
